For Holy Poverty

Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Opening Prayer

O God, who led St. Clare to embrace a life of poverty and love for Your Son, grant through her intercession that we may follow Christ in the spirit of the Gospel and be brought to contemplate Your glory in heaven.

Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Meditation

Clare was born into a wealthy noble family, but on Palm Sunday 1212, she left everything to follow Christ in the footsteps of Francis of Assisi. She embraced radical poverty, owning nothing, and founding an order dedicated to this ideal.

She fought all her life to preserve the 'Privilege of Poverty'—the right to own absolutely nothing. She knew that poverty frees the heart for God.

Prayer

St. Clare, you embraced poverty with joy. Help me to be detached from material things and to find my treasure in Christ alone.

Prayer to St. Clare

O glorious St. Clare, your life was a perfect mirror of the poor Christ. You left the riches of this world to follow Him in radical poverty, and you led countless women to do the same.

Obtain for me a spirit of detachment from worldly goods and a heart fixed on Christ alone. Help me to find in Him all my treasure and to follow Him with joy.

Our Father

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory Be

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

St. Clare, pray for us. Amen.
