For joy in suffering
Sign of the Cross
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Opening Prayer
O God, by whose fire of charity the blessed martyr Lawrence overcame his torments and even jested at his own death, grant us a share of that same love that we may despise what is base and cling to You who are everlasting.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Meditation
Lawrence is famous for his joyful martyrdom. As he was being roasted on a gridiron, he reportedly said, 'Turn me over, I'm done on this side.' His love for Christ transformed his suffering into joy.
This supernatural joy is a gift of the Holy Spirit. When we love Christ above all, even suffering cannot steal our peace.
Prayer
St. Lawrence, you found joy even in martyrdom. Help me to face my sufferings with supernatural joy and to trust in Christ through all trials.

Prayer to St. Lawrence
O glorious St. Lawrence, you showed joy even in your martyrdom, telling your torturers to turn you over because one side was done. Grant me that same cheerfulness in suffering and love for Christ that overcomes all fear.
You gave the treasures of the Church to the poor. Help me to treasure heavenly riches and to serve the needy with generosity.
Our Father
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Glory Be
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
St. Lawrence, pray for us. Amen.
