Meditation

On the night of July 18-19, 1830, St. Catherine Labouré was awakened by a mysterious child who led her to the chapel. There she met the Blessed Virgin Mary, who spoke with her for two hours.

Mary told Catherine of sorrows that would come to France and the world, but promised: "Come to the foot of this altar. There graces will be shed upon all, great and little, who ask for them with confidence and fervor."

Prayer

O most holy Virgin, Mother of our Lord Jesus and our Mother, filled with the most lively confidence in your all-powerful and never-failing intercession, manifested so often through the Miraculous Medal, I your loving and trustful child implore you to obtain for me the graces and favors I ask during this Novena.

(Mention your intentions here)

You know, O Mary, how often my soul has been the sanctuary of your Son who hates iniquity. Obtain for me a deep hatred of sin and that purity of heart which will attach me to God alone.

The Memorare

Remember, O most compassionate Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your assistance, or sought your intercession was left unaided.

Inspired with this confidence, I fly to you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, do not despise my petitions, but in your mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

Act of Consecration

O Virgin Mary, Mother of God, I dedicate and consecrate myself to you under the title of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal.

May this Medal be for me a sure sign of your affection and a constant reminder of my duties toward you. Ever while wearing it, may I be blessed by your loving protection and preserved in the grace of your Son.

O most powerful Virgin, Mother of our Savior, keep me close to you every moment of my life. Obtain for me, your child, the grace of a happy death, so that in union with you I may enjoy the bliss of heaven forever. Amen.

Mary foretold to Catherine that "the cross will be treated with contempt; it will be hurled to the ground." She wept as she spoke of the sufferings that would befall the Church.

Yet through the Miraculous Medal, Mary offers us a remedy for these evils. The medal bears the cross as a sign of our redemption, calling us to embrace the cross with love.

Prayer

O Mary, you who stood at the foot of the cross and shared in your Son's sufferings, help me to embrace my crosses with courage and love.

Meditation

On November 27, 1830, Mary appeared to Catherine standing on a globe, crushing a serpent beneath her feet. Rays of light streamed from rings on her fingers, symbolizing the graces she obtains for those who ask.

Mary said: "These rays symbolize the graces I shed upon those who ask for them." Some gems gave no light—representing "graces for which souls forget to ask."

Prayer

O Mary, powerful Virgin, you who crush the head of the ancient serpent, protect me from all the snares of the enemy.

Help me to resist temptation and to flee from sin. Cover me with your mantle of grace and obtain for me the graces I need but often forget to ask for.
